I have a couple questions.
1. We can drop players without having the "buy them out", correct?
2. Will we get an I.R. slot or two? I think it's important since, say Crosby is hurt for 5 months. Without an I.R. the GM would be forced to have 1 less player scoring for him/her. Because nobody would consider dropping Crosby to get that slot open for a free agent.
3. I really like the idea of having a couple scratch spots just like in the NHL. I dislike the idea of so many drops and adds all the time. It's not realistic.
Thanks to anyone who knows any of these answers.

You can't drop a signed player without having to pay half the caphit.
There will be IR spots which you can fill with a prospect or signing a Free Agent.
Can you explain what you mean about add/drops in #3 ? I don't understand.

Pretty sure she means having bench players

But I think it is realistic because we will have to "call up" players from our farm team (prospect rosters) to fill spots in our roster from injury.

Ok so then dropping a player means you pay half their cap hit - that comes off your cap for the season? i guess this will be tracked? can you drop players during the off-season without the penalty? IR spots can be filled even with healthy players? Like having a bench/healthy scratch? How many spots like this do we each get? THanks for all the help!

There isn't any bench spots. They did that cause some GMs forget to set thier rosters before game time.

No I believe you have to pay half their cap hit for the rest of their contract. you can't really cut players in offseason uunless under special circumstances like retirement

I think I.R is for an injury. I think if you want to release someone who doesn't qualify as a prospect you list them on waivers and if noone takes them the go to free agency put you have to like take half the cap hit. I believe

this was taken from hawks rule page: -If a GM decides to waive a player/contract the GM is required to count exactly half that contracts salary cap hit each year for the life of the contract rounded up to the nearest 100k towards the teams salary for the duration of the contract and post the buy out amount/duration in their teams roster board. -Once a player is waived that player is added to this leagues list of Free Agents eligible to be bid on as per league Free Agency Bidding Process. -Please note that any team who wins a players rights thru Free Agency who was waived by another team is responsible for accounting the entire amount of the contract they offered the player towards their teams salary cap and should not subtract the waived portion being paid by that players previous owner. So since we are being held to the NHL rules for the most part regarding waiving guys, I think we should also be allowed to have healthy scratches at the NHL level. It isn't fair to not have 2 scratch spots at least.
That means we don't have the freedom that NHL teams have but are still subject to waiver rules.
Example: Rod Pelley for the Anaheim Ducks. He is a healthy scratch sometimes. If a team wanted to scratch him they would be unable to - we'd have to cut him and then be forced to pay half his salary for this life of his contract. That seems crappy.
Example: Anton Stralman has a very bad start to the NHL season. Tortorella makes him a scratch for 8 games in a row. The team that owns him in our league can't scratch him or put him on IR. He/she either has to just leave him there on the roster accumulating no points, or cut him and pay half his salary for the duration of whatever contract he has. It's not a yahoo league where you can just cut him and pick him up again when he is back in the lineup/out of his funk. Torts can scratch him for a while and bring him back later. The NYR won't lost him and pay half his salary like we would.
I propose we do it the NHL way and have healthy scratch spots - 2 or 3, or whatever the NHL has. I think this would be more fair.

Sound thinking Kirsten but I prefer to have it as is.
I like the idea of always having my full roster dressed. Even if one day I forget or am too busy to update my roster; my scoring will remain the same.
Plus I don't want GM's having more than 2 starting goalies on their roster. That would be unrealistic. Having a bench spot would make that possible I suppose.

agreed rangers 3 starting goalies would give that individual pretty much the greatest chance of always winning the goalie categories. I like it how it is.
