Would like to see PIM's be included in the stats category.
Some may say penalties taken make a team worse and force penalty kill situations putting a team in a disadvantage; however, how many times in a game has a big fight changed the course of a game? Being able to stick up for ones teammates, creating space and respect for the more skilled players are an irresplaceable part of any winning franchise. We can look at the Boston Bruins as a Stanely Cup winning team without any huge point producers but contained guys who would fight in any given situation (Lucic, Chara, ect.).
The arguement could be made "well we have HITS and BS categories for those types" but I would disagree as some of these role-type enforcers only get five minutes per game limiting the amount of hits or blockshots they can accumulate, but PIMs would be thier main stat category racking up five minutes per fight.
As enforcers still have a role in the NHL today, let's not leave them out of our fantasy league and include a stat category for them in PIMs.

I'm in the pro PIM camp as well, but it's something I can live without.

I don't like PIM points in fantasy hockey because I don't like giving out rewards for cheating essentially. Why should you be rewarded when someone takes a tripping penalty. Even worst...rewarded on par with a goal when a player hits someone from behind and is given a game misconduct.

I understand both sides of this discussion. However as fighting is steadily declining in real life many fantasy hockey leagues are one by one dropping PIMs from their points columns as teams are being rewarded for dirty penalties as opposed to standing up for teammates and fighting. Just my thought. Please remember that at any given time a rule of any kind is subject to change if their is enough interest from GMs to have a vote that results in 16 GMs requesting the rule be changed. At which point the rule would be changed at the next available oppurtunity. Most likely during an off season so as to not effect mid season scoring.
Keep the suggestions coming. They are all being noted for future discussions.

I would love it if we could somehow choose to reward fights as opposed to PIM as a whole, but otherwise I could do without them.
I am a bigger fan of Hits and Blocks.

Agreed. If there was a way to add say 2.5 pts per 5 minute fighting major that would be great

Hate the PIM category myself. PPP, G, & A justifiably penalize silly penalties. Can't see rewarding equal points for a grab or hook especially when given by a pansy ref.
I'd rather see Faceoffs Won included as is an important skill that goes unrewarded in the offensive stats if not included.
Cheers!

Thanks for the input. We are looking at using Fantrax for scoring as i believe we will have enough donations from a few members to pay the $60 per year. We are looking at adding fighting majors as a point category. We have no intention of rewarding 2 minute minors. We have been discussing a faceoff stat as well as a gordie howe hat trick stat

I like face-offs as an important aspect of NHL hockey. I think for fantasy it is tough to include because it only includes players at the centre position giving d-men and wingers less of a value just because of the position they play.
We should focus on including stats all players can collect. Take-away/give-away ratio would be interesting. Not sure if we can track that though :-)

We can look into that. Fantrax seems to track just about every statistic. We will keep everyone updated. We are also looking at a way to give players proper value for the salary they make in real life thru our scoring choices.

I agree about faceoffs being important. One way to balance it is a positive number for wins , a negative number for losses. That way a player with a good faceoff % will be rewarded with somebonus points . It won't have much of an effect o overall points though.
I can confirm that take-aways and give-aways are categories on fantrax so that could be another stat we could use.

Why??? Fuck lets put in shorthanded goals then before the others... ;)So now it becomes u need 4 good center men... Like when does it end with categories.. Why dont we just go with all the categories Fantrax has then.. Fuck me

Because we're trying to recreate the GM experience. Faceoff ability is an important consideration in building a team.
I'm not talking about needing to roster a bunch of Centers so you can get faceoff points. If we include wins and losses it becomes more about FO%
I was thinking 0.1 for a win, and -0.1 for a loss.
For an example Patrice Bergeron has one of the best % in the league at 59%(848W vs 598L) This would only work out to an additional 25 points on the season.
A player like Bergeron in our scoring will put up around 275 points. So the faceoffs would make him a 300 point guy.
