So the CBA negotiations have both sides seeming to agree to a 58 mil cap. How does everyone feel about putting this into effect for this upcoming season. We might do something like allow buyouts from type 2 contracts with no penalties. We may wait til next year to realign our cap with the NHL. Thoughts and suggestions?

Don't matter to me since Im below the cap but. I'd like it to resemble the nhl when doing a 30 team league

I hate this idea and I dont even think the NHL will agree on this number
Half the teams in the real NHL are over cap they really expect them all to buyout, trade and do salary dumps?? I have heard about 63M for the NHL
Also we came into this league and made moves expecting the cap to be 70.2M. Seems unfair to force teams here as well to do dump trades to get under cap when we have orgainzed a team to just fit under the 70.2M cap
23 teams in this league are over cap. 23!! There is no way 23 teams can trade / drop players and get under a cap like that. Many of those 23 are at about 67M, some are even over the 70.2M cap.

Before people get worked up
The idea would be to get the cap at par with the nhl when we can without hurting teams in the process. This is simply for discussion

I wouldn't mind it since I think the cap has always been level with the real NHL's cap. However I think every team should have the same amount of contracts they can dump without penalty since some teams don't have a lot if any type 2 contracts. For example, I only signed Kostitsyn at $1M per and cutting him wouldn't really help my cap situation.

People in this league are over the current cap now how do you expect them to shed $15M???

This is just for discussion guys please dont get worked up. We are just trying to figure out what everyone wants to do this year. We may offer buyouts of all type 2 contracts without penalty and then 1 or 2 type 1 buyouts without penalty. Just looking for ideas. Also waiting to see what the nhl and nhlpa agree to. Seems like we wont have a lockout as both sides seem to be close now.

I have heard that they aren't close.... there is no way the NHL realistically agrees on $58M if 16 teams are over that already and 3 teams are at 57-58M

Well that is the number that the NHL owners and nhlpa have both apparently put forward or agreed on according to several insiders and the same insiders are saying negotiations are going well now. They are saying no rollback on existing salaries and teams may have the option to amnesty a certain number of contracts.

About half the teams in the league are over that number and in the case of some teams, an amnesty move wouldn’t even get them under the cap. For example, the Rangers are very top heavy at forward with three players over $6.6 million in cap hits and then only Ryan Callahan, at $4.25, doesn’t have a cap hit at $1.7 or below. This would provide a crunch now but cause major problems in the offseason when Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin and Ryan McDonagh are all due raises.
While I don’t think that $58 million is where the cap will land in the final agreement, it is going to be somewhere around there and probably not close to the $70 million it is at right now. IMO it is not realistic to be at 58M and I am not sure where you read that.

One of the idea I feel this topic was proposed was to see if we wanted the salarycap to be life like. I prefer it to match the nhl in our leagues case. and following the nhl is the easiest way withouht generating a number

It was the easiest way... at the beginning. It is better for the league not to cut cap significantly when 23 teams are way over the new number

Thinking a fair way to get back to par with the NHL could be
A combination of amnesty buyouts + postponing our matching the NHL CAP until next year. Everyone was operating with the 70.2 number so if we went for that this year we'd have more time.
Only offering a framework for further discussion here.
